Loss is Universal. Moving Forward is a Skill.

Grief is the price we pay for connection, but it isn't reserved only for the death of a loved one. It is the natural response to the end of any significant chapter in your life. Whether you are navigating death of a loved one, a difficult divorce, the end of a long-term relationship, or a career transition, the feeling of being "stuck" in the past is a universal human experience.

At Bonnie Brae Counseling, I provide pragmatic, solution-focused online therapy for adults in Colorado, Pennsylvania, and Arizona. I’ve worked with people across the entire socioeconomic spectrum, from low-income communities to the 1%, and I know that while every loss is unique, the need for actionable tools to move forward is the same.

A Toolkit for Life After Loss

I don’t believe in therapy that keeps you looking backward without a plan. While we move at a pace you are comfortable with, ensuring trust is established before we dive into the most difficult topics, my ultimate goal is your independence. I want to give you the skills to eventually manage your emotional health without a therapist.

Using a blend of CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy), ACT (Acceptance and Commitment Therapy), and DBT (Dialectical Behavior Therapy), we target the full spectrum of loss:

  • Bereavement: Processing the death of a family member, friend, or partner.

  • Relationship Losses: Navigating the specific grief of divorce, breakups, or the loss of a social circle.

  • Identity & Career Shifts: Managing the anxiety and disorientation that follow job loss or a change in your physical health.

  • Disenfranchised Grief: Validating the losses that society doesn't always recognize, helping you find your footing again.

Specialized Virtual Care in CO, PA, & AZ

Loss doesn't respect state lines, and neither do my services. By offering 100% virtual sessions, I provide a professional, private space to do this work wherever you feel most secure.

  • Colorado: Helping residents from Denver and Boulder to the Western Slope navigate life's most difficult transitions.

  • Pennsylvania: Serving clients from the Philadelphia metro to Pittsburgh with a focus on resilience and skill-building.

  • Arizona: Supporting adults in Phoenix, Tucson, and Flagstaff in managing the transitions that follow significant life changes.

A Pragmatic Approach to Healing (FAQ)

Why do you combine "Grief" and "Loss"? Because the brain processes the end of a 10-year marriage or a 20-year career similarly to a death. By addressing both, we validate the reality of your experience and focus on the common goal: increasing your self-esteem and your ability to manage stress in real-time.

How is your style different from "traditional" grief counseling? I focus on the "now" and the "next." While we honor what you’ve lost, we focus heavily on skill-building. We look at the barriers currently standing in your way, like social withdrawal or intrusive thoughts, and make plans to solve them.

Is this covered by insurance? Yes. I am in-network with Aetna, Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield, Cigna, and United Healthcare in all three states, as well as Kaiser (CO) and Highmark (PA). I also accept several EAP programs which are specifically designed to support employees during major life transitions.
